It took me a bit to get into this book because the magic system was so different, but I was able to connect to the main character right away. Her story is dark — she's been hiding a dangerous secret her whole life, and one day everything changes. All plot, no romance. I ended up really liking the magic system once I understood it. If you like this one, there's a second book: Two Twisted Crowns.
