How the ratings work

Full Rating System

For plot-first fantasy and sci-fi readers.

Important: The Overall Score does not necessarily match the rest of the ratings. A book can have a slow start, heavier romance, or complicated worldbuilding and still end up being one of my favorites.

Overall Score

Rated from 1 to 10. This is my overall recommendation and reflects my complete reading experience.

10 - Permanent Collection: One of my all-time favorites. I would recommend it without hesitation and will probably reread it.

9 - Loved It: An excellent book that I would enthusiastically recommend.

8 - Strong Recommendation: Really good and easy to recommend to the right reader.

7 - Entertaining: I had a good time and would recommend it, but it did not become a favorite.

6 - No Regrets: Worth reading, but probably not one I will think about much afterward.

5 and below: Most likely will not show up, do with that what you will.

Hook Speed

1: Snail slow start.
2: I was interested enough to keep reading. Like hmmm OK.
3: I could not put it down.

Eye Roll Test

Straight Stare: No romance, or almost none.
Tiny Eye Roll: Minor or background romance.
Full Eye Roll: Romance is a significant part of the story.
Eyes Rolled Into Another Dimension: Romance is a major focus.

Vomit Rating

This is my personal reaction to romantic scenes. It is not an official judgment of whether the romance is good or bad.

1: Did not bother me.
2: Pass the ginger.
3: I hope you have a Zofran prescription.
4: Insert vom emoji here.

Worldbuilding Difficulty

Easy: Easy to jump into.
Medium Portal: Requires some attention, but still easy to follow.
Labyrinth: Dense worldbuilding, hurt brain.
